Urology Hospitalist: Acute Care Urology
The Division of Urology seeks to hire a urology hospitalist to cover the University of Utah main campus and Huntsman Cancer Institute. This faculty member will serve as an Assistant, Associate, or full Professor and be responsible for covering the inpatient service and consults during daytime hours Monday-Friday. Typical duties would include a day a week of general urology OR and two half days of clinic in the ambulatory care center attached to the hospital. Typical call cases would include conditions such as kidney stone management, Fournier’s gangrene, complex kidney infections and trauma. This faculty member would be expected to develop a strong relationship with the resident team, advanced practice providers working on the inpatient urology team, clinical fellows, and other faculty members taking call and working at University of Utah.
On the educational front, this faculty member will be responsible for teaching residents state of the art surgery, and patient-centered care. This will include didactic lectures and one-on-one teaching in both the clinic and operating room settings. We would expect this faculty member to also educate staff members on best care of the problems seen within urology.
Academic missions for this faculty member could include high-value and impactful teaching roles, clinical outcome studies, health services research, and quality improvement projects. The faculty member will work with some residents and fellows to increase their participation in research and be sure that our adult urology section publishes and reports important data that moves the field forward.
