POSITION DETAILS
- Position: Sterile Processing Technician (SPT)
- Shift: Day Shift
- Schedule: Monday – Friday
- Hours: 12:00 PM – 8:30 PM (5x8-Hour Shifts)
- Care Setting: Acute Care Hospital – Operating Room (OR)
- Contract Type: Travel
- Weekend Requirement: None
- Call Requirement: None
- Holiday Requirement: None
- Charting System: Cerner (Preferred)
- Daily Case Volume: Approximately 23 Cases
- Operating Rooms: 7 OR Suites
- Patient Population: Infants, Pediatrics, Adolescents, Adults, and Geriatrics
REQUIREMENTS
- Minimum 2 years of Sterile Processing Technician experience
- Acute Hospital OR experience required
- Certified Sterile Processing Technician (CSPT/SPT) preferred
- Must have completed at least one prior travel assignment
- Experience with Cerner preferred
- Current BLS Certification
- Strong knowledge of sterilization standards, infection prevention, and instrument processing
- Ability to work independently in a fast-paced surgical environment
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Decontaminate, inspect, assemble, sterilize, and distribute surgical instruments and equipment
- Perform manual cleaning and operation of washers, sterilizers, ultrasonic cleaners, and reprocessing equipment
- Assemble instrument trays and case carts accurately according to surgical procedures
- Monitor and document sterilization processes using biological, chemical, and mechanical indicators
- Process and maintain specialty instrumentation including orthopedic, laparoscopic, robotics, urology, OB/GYN, neurology, vascular, and trauma instruments
- Manage loaner trays, implants, and consignment instrumentation
- Ensure proper labeling, wrapping, storage, and tracking of sterile supplies
- Perform immediate-use steam sterilization (IUSS) when required
- Reprocess flexible scopes, endoscopes, cystoscopes, ureteroscopes, and related equipment
- Maintain compliance with infection control, regulatory, and hospital sterilization standards
- Collaborate with Operating Room staff to ensure timely instrument availability for surgical procedures
- Complete accurate documentation related to sterilization, testing, and instrument tracking
- Support patient safety by ensuring all instruments and equipment meet sterilization and quality standards before use.
