Description
American Traveler is hiring a night-shift RN for a PCU/IMC Float Pool position in the Colorado Springs Zone 1 area, requiring 2 years of PCU/IMC experience and a Compact RN license.
Details
- Acute care setting within a multi-facility float pool covering PCU/IMC units across Zone 1 in the Colorado Springs region
- Float pool covers multiple specialties including General, Cardiac, Neuro, Oncology, Rehab, Renal, Bariatrics, Ortho, Trauma, and ED Obs
- Patient population consists of adult and geriatric patients with diagnoses including cardiac, neuro, ortho, oncology, renal, urology post-surgical, general surgery, gynecology, psych/detox, ENT, and general medicine
- Nurse-to-patient ratios of 1:3-4 depending on acuity
- Night shift schedule with 12-hour shifts (7p-7a)
- Required to float within Zone 1 among Penrose Hospital, St. Francis Medical Center, St. Francis InterQuest, St. Mary Corwin, and St. Thomas More
- May also be asked to float into ICU (low acuity holds), PCU/Stepdown, or MS-Tele units based on skillset
- Schedules are built by leadership 6 weeks at a time; travelers are expected to remain flexible to fill scheduling gaps
- 6-9 weekend shifts required within each 6-week schedule
- May be required to work during the holiday rotation
- Rare on-call requirement, primarily during low census periods
- Uses EPIC EMR system
- Unit has designated charge nurses, nurse aides, and access to respiratory therapy equipment (vents, CPAP, BiPAP)
- Unit/department-specific orientation consists of 1-2 days with a preceptor
Requirements
- Active Compact (NLC) or Colorado RN license required; pending licenses not accepted
- Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required (active, not pending)
- Minimum 2 years of PCU/IMC nursing experience required
- Prior neuro experience preferred
- Epic EMR experience preferred
- Must have experience with cardiac drips, insulin, and Ativan
- Must be comfortable titrating and managing cardiac drips, insulin, Ativan, and heparin, including dopamine, dobutamine, cardizem, and amiodarone
- Must reside at least 60 miles from the Colorado Springs city center
- Copy of driver's license required for consideration
Additional Information
- Provide direct patient care in a multi-unit PCU/IMC float pool supporting various specialties and acuity levels
- Travelers are responsible for securing housing that allows them to meet the full Zone 1 float radius requirement, regardless of preferred location
- No home base facility; float assignments will be communicated on or before the Monday start date, with scheduling formats varying between single-facility weekly assignments and Just-In-Time (JIT) facility assignments
- Scrub color is not restricted; any color is acceptable
- All time off requests must be submitted prior to the start of the assignment
- First-time travelers may be considered for this position
- Candidates who have been directly employed (full-time, part-time, or PRN) by any CommonSpirit-affiliated facility, including CHI and Dignity Health, within the past year are not eligible; PRN employment through outside staffing firms is acceptable
- Clinicians should plan to be in-state for orientation week, even if initial modules are completed remotely
