Description
American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a PACU position requiring Epic EMR experience and combined Preop/PACU background.
Details
- op/PACU unit within an acute care hospital setting
- 18-bed unit comprised of 13 General OR and 5 Endo beds
- Shared position supporting Surgical and Endoscopy Preop and Recovery areas
- Staff rotate between Preop, PACU Phase 1, and PACU Phase 2 based on shift needs
- Nurse-to-patient ratios are 1:3 in Preop, 1:2 in Phase 1, and 1:1-3 in Phase 2
- Common cases include General, Breast, Ortho, Urology, and OBGYN surgeries
- Day shift schedule with multiple start times between 0530 and 1300, working 10-12 hour shifts
- Set schedules created by management with no self-scheduling or block scheduling
- May be required to participate in call schedule for weeknights, weekends, and holidays with a 30-minute response time
- Occasional floating to other areas within the hospital may be required, though not typical
- ICU patients recover in PACU approximately once per month
- Uses Epic EMR system
Requirements
- Active RN license (ID or compact) required
- BLS, ACLS, and PALS certifications required
- Minimum 1 year of experience required
- Must have both Preop and PACU experience
- Epic EMR experience required
- Must be able to read and identify EKG rhythm changes and life-threatening rhythms
- Must be willing to support all unit areas including endo care (endo procedure experience not required)

Additional Information
- Responsibilities include preparing patients for surgery, post-anesthesia recovery, airway management, and pain management
- Staff assist with unit restocking and turnover between patients due to small unit size
- Charge nurse manages unit flow and does not typically take a patient assignment
- 2 nurse aides support the Preop area performing EKGs, blood draws, blood sugars, transfers, pregnancy tests, vitals, and bladder scanning
- No RT staff on unit; anesthesia oversees the area with RT available for assist as needed
- Scrubs are provided by the facility
- Unit-specific orientation includes 3 days with a preceptor, plus 1-2 days of general hospital orientation
- Described as a family-oriented department with a strong support system
- Candidates must reside outside a 50-mile radius of the facility; local candidates will not be considered
- Former permanent employees must have been separated from the facility for at least one year before applying for this travel assignment
