Description
American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Med/Surg-Tele Float Pool position requiring a CO or compact RN license and 2 years of Med/Surg-Tele experience.
Details
- Float pool position covering multiple acute care hospitals within the Colorado Springs Zone 1 region
- Units include General MS-Tele and various specialties such as Cardiac, Neuro, Oncology, Rehab, Renal, Bariatrics, Ortho, Trauma, and ED Observation
- May also float into ICU (low acuity holds within skillset) and PCU/Stepdown units
- Adult and geriatric patient population with diagnoses including cardiac, neuro, ortho, oncology, renal, urology post-surgical, general surgery, gynecology, psych/detox, ENT, and general medicine
- Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:5-6 based on acuity
- Night shift, 12-hour shifts (7p-7a)
- 6-9 weekend shifts required within a 6-week schedule
- Schedules are built by leadership 6 weeks at a time and released 4-6 weeks in advance
- Assignments follow either a single-facility weekly schedule or a Just-In-Time format with facility assignment given 1-2 hours before shift start
- No home base facility; must be available to float to any facility within the zone
- Rare on-call or standby requirement for low census situations
- Uses EPIC EMR
- RNs are required to titrate Heparin drips
- Designated charge nurse on each unit who typically does not take a patient assignment unless necessary
- Nursing aide support available on units
- Respiratory therapy equipment used, including vents, CPAP, and BiPap
Requirements
- Active CO or Compact (NLC) RN license required, active at time of consideration
- Minimum 2 years of Med/Surg-Tele experience required
- Prior neuro experience preferred
- Current BLS (AHA), ACLS (AHA), and NIHSS certifications required
- BSN not required
- Driver's license copy required for consideration
- Two professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months worked and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years worked, including employment dates and rehire eligibility
Additional Information
- Provide direct patient care across multiple med/surg and telemetry specialty units as part of a float pool team
- Float assignments will be communicated on or before the Monday start date and may vary by schedule
- Must be flexible to fill scheduling gaps across permanent staffing needs
- All time-off requests must be submitted prior to starting the assignment
- May be required to participate in holiday rotation coverage
- Must reside at least 60 miles from the float zone's city center (Colorado Springs) to qualify for the position
- Responsible for securing housing that accommodates floating requirements throughout the entire zone
