Job Summary:
Registered Nurse (RN) - Medical Surgical at a healthcare organization in Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina. This role involves providing comprehensive patient care on a 36-bed medical-surgical unit, working with a team to support a diverse patient population. The ideal candidate will have experience with bedside procedures, IV insertion, and a strong teamwork approach. The position offers a day shift schedule and requires a licensed RN with current certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) and NIHSS, as well as an active North Carolina or Compact license.
Job Details:
- Schedule: Days shift, 12 hours per shift, minimum of 36 hours per week
- Required Qualifications: NC or Compact RN license; BLS; NIHSS; 2 years of nursing experience; knowledge of assisting providers with bedside procedures and IV insertion; ability to work in a fast-paced medical-surgical environment
- Preferred Qualifications: Experience with bedside procedures such as wound vacs, thoracentesis/paracentesis, chest tubes, central line care, and bedside I & D; familiarity with common medications like Heparin, Lasix Drips, Insulin, and cardiac medications; experience with EPIC computerized charting system
- Patient Population and Procedures: General medical-surgical patients with diagnoses including stroke, GI bleed, hip and ankle fractures, sepsis, renal issues, and post-operative recoveries; procedures may include wound care, chest tube management, thoracentesis, paracentesis, and trauma care
- Equipment and Supplies: Alaris IV pump, Omni Feeding pump, SCD machine, IsoAir mattress pump, AccuChek Vein Finder, glucose meters, Welch-Allyn VS machine, and computers on wheels
- Team and Patient Care: Care delivered by charge nurses, primary nurses, and nursing assistants; team-based approach with potential float to other nursing areas based on census and practice needs
- Additional Information: Use of ancillary staff is supported; unit utilizes the EPIC electronic charting system; patient care includes complex procedures and medication management
