Description
American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for an ICU Staff Float Pool position requiring at least 2 years of experience and an active AL or compact RN license.
Details
- Work in the ICU Staff Float Pool at a 492-bed Level II Trauma Center with Level III NICU and Primary Stroke Center designation
- Home unit assigned on the first day of orientation, potentially including General Cardiac, CVICU, MICU, Neuro ICU, or Surgical ICU
- General Cardiac unit (10 beds) treats STEMI, post cardiac cath, respiratory failure/ventilated, post cardiac arrest, post stroke, renal failure, hypertensive emergency, and sepsis patients
- CVICU (12 beds) treats post-op CABG, valve, thoracotomy, VA/VV ECMO, post cardiac arrest, and post-op vascular surgery patients
- MICU (14 beds) treats acute respiratory failure, acute renal/liver failure, DKA, sepsis/septic shock, and some post-surgical patients
- Neuro ICU (14 beds) is a fast-paced unit treating CVA, subarachnoid hemorrhage, subdural hemorrhage, intraparenchymal hemorrhage, and seizure patients
- Surgical ICU (14 beds) treats post-surgical, trauma, vascular, multisystem trauma, and neuro trauma patients
- Patient ratio is 1:2
- Uses Cerner EMR, Plum 360 IV pumps, Omnicell medication dispensing, and Spacelabs monitors
- RNs are required to read and measure telemetry strips for ICU monitoring
- 12-hour day shifts (7:00 AM start), scheduled 36-48 hours per week on a 6-week schedule cycle
- Shift options include 7a-7p and 7p-7a
- Every other weekend rotation required, with occasional back-to-back weekends
- No on-call responsibilities
- Floating required to like units/patient locations, including ICU-to-ICU, limited ICU-to-MS tasks (up to 3), and ICU-to-ER/ICU holds
Requirements
- Active RN license (AL state or compact) required
- Current certifications: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
- First-time travelers accepted with at least 2 years of experience and prior Cerner or Epic EMR experience
- Cerner EMR experience preferred
- Skills across ICU specialties may include vent care, hemodynamic monitoring, medication titrations, arterial lines, IABP, Impella, EKOS, CRRT (PrismaFlex), chest tube management, Swan-Ganz catheters, FloTrac monitoring, hypothermia protocol, trach care, EVD/ICP monitoring, wound care, and central line management
- Former permanent staff must wait 6 months before being considered as a traveler
Additional Information
- Deliver critical care nursing across multiple ICU specialties as part of a staff float pool
- Support staff on the unit includes a charge nurse per shift, CNAs at a 1:10 ratio, phlebotomy, IV/VAT team, and hospitalist coverage
- Orientation for travelers new to the facility or returning after 1+ years includes 24 hours of classroom time and 24 hours on the unit
- Orientation length for rehires depends on last date of employment at the facility
- Holiday coverage required for one major and one minor seasonal holiday per policy, though specific dates off are not guaranteed prior to arrival
- Scrub color is flexible
- Staff parking available in an on-campus parking deck
- Must reside outside a 60-mile radius of the facility, as local candidates are not accepted
- COVID vaccine is not required for consideration
