Description
American Traveler is hiring a night shift ICU RN with critical care experience for an acute care ICU requiring CRRT, vents, and vasoactive medication proficiency.
Details
- 18-bed ICU with all private rooms featuring negative pressure capability for COVID patients
- Typical patient ratios of 1:2, with 1:1 for CRRT/organ donation cases and possible stretch to 1:3 during overflow/stepdown, averaging a daily census of 13
- Patient population includes sepsis, PNA, COVID, CHF, COPD, DKA, OD, renal failure, neurosurgical cases (lumbar drains, ventriculostomies), general surgery, occasional MI, and vascular patients
- 12-hour night shifts from 1900-0730, with self-scheduling and block scheduling allowed as needs of the unit permit
- Every other weekend requirement, working either Fri/Sat/Sun or Sat/Sun/Mon depending on unit needs
- Rare call or standby requirement
- Required to float to Stepdown and MedSurg units as needed
- Uses Epic EMR system
- Phillips telemetry system used for cardiac monitoring, with ICU staff responsible for monitoring, interpretation, and admitting patients to the system
- Dedicated respiratory therapist in the ICU daily from 7a-7p, with RT covering all of critical care overnight
- Intensivist coverage 7a-7p daily with residents, and hospitalist overnight coverage from 6p-6a
- Pharmacist available on the unit daily from 0700-1630
- 1-2 PCTs on the unit depending on census and staffing
Requirements
- Active RN license (WV or Compact) required
- Current certifications: BLS (AHA), ACLS (AHA), and NIHSS
- Minimum 1 year of critical care experience required
- Prior travel nursing experience preferred
- Must be competent with CRRT, IABP, vents, post-code/therapeutic hypothermia care
- Skilled with vasoactive medications, sedation, and paralytics
- Responsible for titrating all critical care drips within ordered parameters
- Responsible for central line care and removal
- Unexpired copy of driver's license required for consideration
Additional Information
- Responsible for monitoring, interpreting, and admitting patients to telemetry system, with remote tele techs serving as backup monitoring
- Charge nurse carries an assignment on nights and weekends
- Must complete 2 shifts of general/floor orientation and Epic education before starting on the floor
- General education competencies must be completed prior to arrival on assignment
- Scrub color is royal blue, and scrub jackets are optional but must be actual scrub jackets (no hoodies or sweat-jackets)
- Holiday coverage may be required if permanent staff cannot cover unit needs
- Must reside outside a 50-mile radius of the facility to qualify as a traveler
- Returning travelers must have taken a 2-year break before reapplying to any WVU Medicine location
- Travelers are limited to working within WVU Medicine for no longer than one year cumulative before requiring a 2-year break
