Opportunity:
Surgical Assistant - OR
Job Details:
• Function as Surgical First or Second Assistant to the surgeon for complex and basic operative or invasive procedures
• Primary focus on orthopedic procedures with strong proficiency required across all specialties
• Must have strong background in Robotic surgery (Xi), Neuro, General, Ortho, ENT, and Vascular procedures
• Perform a variety of surgical procedures across specialties including Neuro/ENT, Orthopedic, General, Breast/Plastics, Vascular, Laparoscopic, General Oncology, Genitourinary, Gynecology, and Robotics
• May perform responsibilities of a Surgical Technologist if required, preferably not simultaneously while functioning as first assist
• Variable day shift start times between 5:30 AM and 7:00 AM
• Patient ratio of 1:1
• Cross trained to all Main OR specialties and Urology center
• On-call requirements with 30-minute response time:
- General/Neuro: AM 3-5 call slots Monday through Friday; 1-2 Saturday and/or Sunday per 8-week schedule
- General/Neuro: PM 5-8 overnight call slots per 8-week schedule
- Orthopedic Surgical Assistants: 1 day each week Monday through Thursday per 5-week call schedule; 1 call weekend every 5 weeks (Friday through Sunday)
• Orientation consists of 2 weeks: 2 days education/paperwork, 3 days General, 2 days Ortho, 2 days Neuro, 1 day Urology
• Charting systems and equipment include EPIC, Alaris, and Pyxis
• Hospital-provided surgical scrubs; scrub caps must be covered by a surgical bouffant
• Minimum 2 years of experience required
• Required certifications: BLS (first assist must have first assist skills checklist, not general ORT skills checklist)
• Not recommended for first-time travelers
Facility:
This facility is a large 938-bed hospital and Level III Trauma Center with Magnet Designation and Primary Stroke Center status. The main operating room features 21 OR beds and supports a wide range of surgical specialties. The facility provides comprehensive support through charge nurses, leads, and supervisors, and offers on-campus amenities including a Starbucks and cafeteria, as well as complimentary parking for staff.
