The Department of Pathology at MedStar Georgetown University Hospital (MGUH) is seeking a full time (1.0 FTE), non-tenure clinical track faculty position at the rank of Professor of Pathology.

MedStar Georgetown University Hospital is a not-for-profit, acute-care teaching and research hospital with 609 beds located in Northwest Washington, D.C. MedStar Georgetown's centers of excellence include the Transplant Program. The Transplant Institute at MGUH is one of the leading transplant centers in the country performing over 5000 liver, kidney, small bowel, colon, stomach, and multi organ transplants. The program is nationally recognized for the evaluation and treatment of advanced liver disease and chronic kidney disease.

Key responsibilities of the position:

  • Providing clinical diagnostic services in transplant, medical liver and medical kidney pathology and electron microscopy
  • Serve as Program Director of ACGME accredited transplant, medical kidney and medical liver pathology fellowship
  • Serve as liaison Director of pediatric nephrology fellowship at the Children’s National Medical Center (Washington, DC) and provide diagnostic renal pathology services
  • Provide clinical diagnostic services in hematopathology to MGUH Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Center
  • Provide clinical diagnostic services in general surgical pathology
  • Apply and procure research grants funded by federal agencies such as NIH, DOD, etc.
  • Demonstrate academic activity and productivity in the form of peer reviewed scientific publications and presentations
  • Provide training of residents, fellows, and medical students
  • Collaborate with researchers at Georgetown University Medical Center in translational research and mentor PhD candidates
  • Maintaining professional growth and development through academic meetings, CME activities and staying current with literature

Required qualifications

  • Minimum of 20 years’ experience at the rank of Professor of Pathology
  • Diplomat of American Board of pathology certified in anatomic pathology, clinical pathology and hematology
  • One-year fellowship training each in surgical pathology, electron microscopy, molecular pathology and hematopathology
  • DC medical license
  • Currently holding an appointment as “Faculty Member” of an NCI designated comprehensive cancer Center
  • Proven track record of being awarded federally funded grants as principal/co-investigator
  • Demonstrated academic productivity in the form of prolific publications and presentations
  • Membership of editorial board of peer reviewed national and international scientific journals

The position is employed through the MedStar Medical Group (MMG) practice which encompasses nine Medstar Health hospitals in DC and MD. Academic appointment with Georgetown University School of Medicine in the clinician educator or clinician scholar track is offered but it is not mandatory.
