Unit: PCU – StepdownBeds: 11 (expanding to 12 later 2023)Ratios: 1:4Shift Requirements & Floating:• Weekend: Every other• Holidays: Rotational• Travel staff required to float to ICU, Med-Surg Telemetry, or ED for boarded patientsRequired Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSSPatient Population:• Post-op vascular, post-cardiac cath (PCTA or significant blockage)• Hemodynamically stable dysrhythmias, CVA, Sepsis, Renal patients, Stable acute MI, Unstable angina• ICU-level care skills required: BiPAP, CPAP, mechanical ventilation, telemetry, critical drips; CRRT & IABP preferred• Preferred: Arterial line experience, post-fem-pop, post-endarterectomy, ECAR, TVAR• Experience: 1–2 years critical care, travel experience requiredDrip/Titration Responsibilities:• RNs titrate drips• Common drips: Insulin, Cardizem, Heparin, Amiodarone, Low-dose DopamineStaffing & Roles:• Charge Nurse: Assigned in PCU; ICU Charge Nurse available as resource• House Supervisor: 24/7• PCT (CNA) ratio: 1:10; nurses assist with general care/unit clerk duties• Telemetry: Monitor tech 24/7; RNs read stripsEquipment: CPAP, BiPAP, high-flow O₂, mechanical ventilation via trach, specialty beds, IV pumpsDress Code:• RN/LPN: Navy• CNA/Monitor Tech: Dark Grey/Pewter• Solid colors only; WVU Medicine or solid fleece allowed (grey, black, navy, royal blue)• Solid undershirts: white, grey, black• Closed-toed shoes only; no crocsOrientation:• First day: General hospital orientation• Full nursing orientation (RNs/LPNs)• Computer training: ½ day for CNAs, full day for nurses• Two 12-hour orientation shifts with preceptor• Abbreviated Initial Skills Checklist due 90 days from start
