Job Summary

• Radius Rule: 50 miles
• Driver's license required at submittal and will be used to verify distance outside the 50-mile radius

Policies & Requirements

• Fingernail policy:
  • Artificial nails are prohibited in all patient care departments
  • Refusal to remove artificial nails will result in termination of contract
• RN Exam Requirement:
  • Pass/Fail exam on Friday during orientation
  • Open-book exam based on skills learned
  • All necessary resources are provided
  • Must score 90% or higher to pass or contract will be terminated

Nurse-to-Patient Ratios

• ICU: 1:1–2
• PCU: 1:4–5
• Med Surg: 1:5–6

Patient Population & Diagnoses

• Adults and pediatrics over 15 years old
• Neurosurgery (initiating neuro interventionalist with thrombectomy program – experience not required)
• Respiratory failure
• ARDS
• MODS
• Sepsis
• Stroke
• Cardiogenic shock (Impella, balloon pump – experience not required)
• Renal failure (CRRT – experience not required)
• General surgery
• Psych/overdose patients
• GI bleeds
• Cancer-specific surgeries including:
  • Esophagectomy
  • Internal chemotherapy administration

Equipment & Monitoring

• CVPs
• A-lines
• Swans
• EV-1000
• ICP monitoring (training provided in real time)
• Zoll Thermoguard for hypothermia protocol
• Belmont rapid transfuser

Drips & Medications

• RNs are required to titrate drips
• Common drips include:
  • Vasopressors
  • Paralytics
  • Narcotics
  • Sedation
  • Antiarrhythmics

Staffing & Support

• Charge nurse present on each shift
• Charge nurse does take an assignment
• Charge nurse attends RRTs and codes
• Nurse aides/patient care techs available
  • Ratio: 1:18

Respiratory Therapy

• Equipment includes nasal cannula through ventilators
• RNs are required to troubleshoot respiratory equipment

Telemetry

• No telemetry/monitor techs on unit
• Draeger heart monitoring system with centralized telemetry
• RNs must read and interpret their own strips

Scheduling

• Shifts:
  • 0630–1830
  • 1830–0630
• Scheduling is manager-driven based on unit needs

Weekend & Holiday Requirements

• Weekends: Every other
• Holidays:
  • 2 out of 3 major holidays or
  • Every other or
  • As needed based on unit needs

Floating Requirements

• Float to all inpatient units
• Excludes Maternity and NICU

Dress Code

• Scrub color: Navy Blue

Orientation

• 2 shifts of unit/department-specific orientation
