Description
The Division of Nephrology, Department of Internal Medicine at the University of Michigan,
Ann Arbor, MI is seeking a transplant nephrology fellow candidate for the academic year 2026 –
2027. Our center is a nationally renowned large multiorgan transplant center that performs over
250 kidney transplants a year. We participate in national and global paired exchange programs
and have an active pancreas transplant program.
The Transplant Nephrology Fellowship Training Program provides comprehensive clinical
training. The trainee will acquire expansive experience in all aspects of transplantation including
pre-kidney and pancreas transplant evaluation, inpatient and outpatient transplant recipient
management, living donor evaluations, kidney graft biopsies (we perform more than 500
biopsies/year) and organ offer evaluations. In addition, the trainee will also work with HLA
specialists, pathologists, as well as on transplant protocol and quality improvement projects. The
transplant will attend didactic lectures, journal clubs, clinical conferences, M&M conferences,
QAPI meetings, Selection committee meetings, and pathology conferences. The program
fulfills the requirements established by the Organ Procurement and Transplant Network
(OPTN) for individuals to serve as Primary Kidney and Pancreas physician for any
transplant program in U.S.
The transplant fellow is hired as a Clinical instructor and will supervise general nephrology
fellows during in-patient rotation along with transplant faculty. In the latter portion of their
training, the transplant fellow will have an opportunity to practice independently as a
transplant provider. University of Michigan Transplant Program has a recipient and donor

research projects and leverage the database.
